Our History

In God's grace, Grace Community Church of Saddleback Valley began meeting in the spring of 1975. The church began as a home Bible study taught by Pastor Dick Bush (M.Div., Princeton Theological Seminary, D.Min., Fuller Theological Seminary), which quickly grew into a gathering of several hundred meeting in local schools for weekend services.

As an independent non-denominational church, Grace became known for holding steadfastly to the Word of God in the Bible in its teaching, evangelism and discipleship. Within two years, eight acres of orange groves off the then-new Trabuco Road/ El Toro Road was acquired and a ground breaking for facilities began.

Under Dr. Bush's leadership over the next 20 years, Grace continued to grow and impact the lives of people in Saddleback Valley and around the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. New ministries, small groups and missions flourished.

Dr. Bush retired from vocational ministry in 1995 and after a two year search Dr. Joe Falkner (Th.M., D.Min., Dallas Theological Seminary) was called as Grace's second senior pastor in 1997.

Dr. Falkner was greatly gifted as a Bible teacher and faithfully preached God's Word continuing Grace's legacy of upholding the Word of God throughout its ministry. Dr. Falkner's leadership helped shape the church into a caring spiritual community that not only taught the grace of God, but lived by grace as well.

In the fall of 2004, Dr. Falkner accepted the call to another pastorate. Intern Michael Goacher (M.A./CE, Dallas Theological Seminary, D.Min, Talbot School of Theology '12) stepped in as Lead Bible Teacher at Grace for weekend services while the search for the senior pastor ensued.

During the following year while Michael served at Grace it became evident that he had the gift set, personality and passion the church was looking for in a senior pastor. He is gifted as a Bible teacher, has a servant's heart and gentle leadership style.

So, responding to God's leading in January 2006, Michael Goacher was called as the third senior pastor of Grace. His passion is to lead Grace into a place of spiritual health in Christ and readiness to reach each generation with the gospel of Christ.
